It seems like just yesterday I was kicking off 2018 - ready for a big year, that included my own wedding and honeymoon! Somehow the last 12 months just flew by (but don't they always) and now it's January again.
I quite like a new year.
Not because of all the resolutions but because I have a blank new diary with pages to be filled with my goals, scribbles, appointments, ideas for shoots...I may in fact have a mild notebook obsession - but that's post for another day!
2018 was quite a year, not just for me personally but also for my business.
My highlights included being commissioned by Critical Hit to cover the very first South African ComicCon, travelling to Victoria Falls and Harare for my first destination weddings, moving into a beautiful new store/studio space with Elli-Nicole and making new friends who enriched my year beyond mention.
And of course, I married my best friend.
With the ups came some downs, and if 2018 taught me anything it was resilience.
When Dean developed a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) after surgery in October, it felt as if our world had fallen out from underneath our feet. For a week it was hospital beds and tests and a whole lot of question marks.
Fortunately he recovered just fine, and the experience brought us closer than we've ever been. It also made me think more deeply about the work that I do and why I've always loved photography. It's not just about recording that moment, it's about the feeling you have when you look back. It's the memories of the moment, it's really capturing time standing still.
Last year some of my favourite weddings were the small, intimate ones. I'm such a sucker when it comes to love and I think I shed just as many tears at the weddings I photograph as I did at my own!
I had a few couples who just needed me to cover the ceremony and couple shoot, so I designed my new wedding guide to cater to couples who would prefer to book by the hour. This means I can design my wedding collections around your needs.
If he (or she) put a ring on it over the festive season, I'd love to chat about your dream wedding and how we can make your Big Day dreams come true.
It's also the official launch of the the Luxe Portrait Session this month.
This is your chance to spoil yourself with professional hair and make-up styling, plus a fully guided photo shoot. It's a model-for-a-day experience that is custom designed around you.
Luxe sessions also make a great gift for someone special, or to celebrate a special occasion.
A milestone birthday (think sweet 16, 21st, 30th, 50th, 60th etc), a personal achievement (think fitness or weight-loss goals), a maternity session for a mama-to-be, or just because everyone should have a beautiful portrait of themselves.
Studio not your thing? A fun option perfect for family shoots and celebrating friendships of all ages are the Mini-sessions and Classic sessions.
Mini-sessions are 30-45 minutes long, and our Classic session is 1-2 hours. Outdoor portraits are still really popular and there are a few locations that are just stunning around this time of year - especially with all the rain we've had!
If you're interested in booking a portrait session or would like some more information, head on over here.
Hands up all those who hang out on Instagram? Truth be told I'm not the most savvy Facebooker (is that even a word?), but I can get lost for hours in a beautiful Insta feed.
Last year I worked closely with The Imagepreneur and now have the Social Media Solution - aimed at content creation for solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, bloggers, etc.
A combination of brand-relevant flatlays, lifestyle images and personal branding portraits, aimed at giving you a consistent social media voice.
Interested? Pop me a mail and let's chat!
And speaking of Instagram and social media...
Let's have some conversations!
